I’m Ella Johnston, a British artist and illustrator based in the East Anglian countryside. My illustrations are created with watercolour and ink, I specialise in depicting natural forms such as animal life, flowers and botanicals.
I also specialise in art and craft illustration. I currently work closely with the Mitsubishi Pencil Company on creating easy-draw designs for the crafts consumer and have been conducting hands-on drawing workshops all around the UK on behalf of the company.
My design philosophy is one of simplicity, harmony and elegance, using clean, uncluttered composition. My drawings are inspired by folk art, Scandinavian motifs, classic botanical and avian illustrative prints of the 19th Century.
My illustrations and stationery collections have been commissioned by, and showcased in, Guardian Labs for Brittany Ferries, St. Martin’s Press, The Eighty Eight Magazine, Firewords, Boots Health and Beauty, Elle Decoration, Stylist’s Emerald Street, Homemaker, and Ideal Home. I am also creative director and illustrator for the independent publishers Dunlin Press.
